Circular Wash Series

Even though illumination Physics is a project orientated company that develops custom luminaires for each application, inevitably, as part of that process, families of products evolve and come to the fore. The illumination Physics Circular Wash Light Series is an example of such an evolution: a complete series of luminaires with very broad capabilities.

Wash lights can be rectangular or circular, and each design philosophy has its nuances, advantages and aesthetics. illumination Physics makes both rectangular and circular luminaires, but this article solely focuses on illumination Physics’ Circular Wash Light Series.

We will deal with the IP Rectangular Wash Series in a separate article.

Some might say, ‘Ah, illumination Physics has resorted to catalogue marketing’.

Let’s see; this is a range of luminaires equipped with truly adaptable properties.

Housing

The IP Circular Wash Light Series is constructed of marine-grade die-cast aluminium. The standard colours are as follows:

Black (RAL 9005), Grey (RAL 8017), White (RAL 9001) and Red (RAL 3005) – custom colours are available upon request.

AC or DC

All five of the luminaires in this series are available in AC versions (PSU onboard), or DC versions (with remote drivers). The wiring is available in two configurations, either single cable or dual cables (in and out cables), when the luminaires are connected in series.

Power range and LED type

The IP Circular Wash Light Series makes use of CREE 4-in-1 LEDs. They can be configured in three ways:

  •  Four individually controllable dies, such as RGBW or RGBA: We refer to this as ‘Quattro’ in our nomenclature. In the case of the RGBW version, there is a choice of either warm white or cool white for that die.
  •  Two pairs of dies that are separately controllable, such as dual white versions. We refer to this as ‘Duo’ in our nomenclature.
  •  The third option is monochromatic: all four dies are identical and controlled as a single light source, thus used primarily with white light applications.

The number of LED engines, the LED configuration, colours, the LED power and the input power form part of the name of each type, for example:

‘IP Circular Wash Series Quattro 7-72W RGBW AC’

This luminaire uses the 4 die light engine in 4 colours, 7 light engines are used, the maximum power is 72 watts, and the PSU is onboard because the fixture can accept AC line voltage.

Or,

‘IP Circular Wash Series Duo 4 – 30W DW DC’

This luminaire uses the 4 die light engine in 2 colours (Dual White in this case), 7 light engines are used, the maximum power is 30 watts, and the luminaire accepts DC as the driver is remote.

The IP Circular Wash Series is available in 5 power configurations, 3 x 25 watts, 4 x 30 watts, 7 x 72 watts, 15 x 140 watts and 36 x 270 watts. The last and most powerful in the series uses heat pipe technology for enhanced cooling.

Colour temperature and CRI
The white light versions of the IP Circular Wash Series are available in dual white or monochromatic white.

  • The colour temperatures for white light available are as follows:
    2400K (very warm white VWW)
  • 2700K (warm white WW1)
  • 3000K (warn white WW2)
  • 4000K (neutral white NW), 5000K (cool white CW1)
  • 6000K (cool white CW2).

Custom binning is available upon request – Macadam 2 Step is the standard.

Control
Both DMX and Dali protocols are available or just ON/OFF.

Accessories
Both half and full glare shields are available. The half shield is intended for use primarily with asymmetric lenses.

Lenses
A wide range of lenses are available for all of the series:
Symmetrical lenses –

  • 10 degrees
  • 25 degrees
  • 40 degrees
  • 60 degrees.

Asymmetrical lenses (spread lenses) –

  • 10 x 35 degrees
  • 10 x 60 degrees
  • 30 x 60 degrees.

IK rating and Ingress Protection
The IP Circular Wash Series is rated at IP66 for the housing and IP67 for the connectors. The standard IK rating is IK 07.

Illumination Physics now offers a complete series of circular lights, adaptable to the broadest possible range of configurations.

The IP Circular Wash Series has recently been used extensively for the façade lighting of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Larnaca, Cyprus.
